Oakland Youth First is a non-profit 501 (c) (3) organization, located in Oakland, CA.  Launched in 2013, Oakland Youth First describes the principle behind an umbrella program providing comprehensive, innovative career-exploration opportunities  (STEM, aviation, boating) for those urban youth most at risk of dropping out of school or being incarcerated, such as  It is designed to motivate teenagers and young people out of a cycle leading to poverty and crime and onto a path of self-actualization as part of the wrap-around services available through the George P. Scotlan Youth and Family Center in West Oakland.

While many children are supported by a loving, nourishing and comfortable upbringing, many others are not. For them, negative experiences and years of accumulated stress often become overwhelming leading to academic and social disengagement as well as hopelessness. Dreams that once inspired them a little are now difficult to recall even in the least.

Since 1966, the George P. Scotlan Youth and Family Center has been helping urban youth overcome obstacles to having a stable family life, succeeding in education and obtaining professional success as well as economic independence. SYFC/OYF aims to rekindle those dreams and resolve barriers which prevent those dreams from becoming reality.
