Learning Plan Overview

Introduction

At the heart of our learning program is the learning package. The learning package content is designed to effectively connect aviation and aviation related activities to everyday classroom topics (e.g. math, physics) and current life experiences for youth at the elementary and middle school levels. 

Our learning package architecture is depicted in the figure below. The entire learning package is at the first level. The second level consists of learning pods. Each learning pod consists of a number of learning courses.

A learning course consists of learning modules and each learning module consists of learning objectives. This structure takes the instructor straight into the classroom with easy-to-follow courses and associated learning modules. 

The use of a decentralized learning architecture, allows the instructor the opportunity to customize his/her learning plan to the needs of the students and the desires of the sponsoring organization. A choice can be made to use all the learning pods in the package or select only certain learning pod and courses.

The learning pods contained in our package are:

Learning Pod 1: Aviation Ground School

The Aviation Ground School Learning Pod is designed to introduce aviation terms, concepts, and flight rules and procedures to the student. The courses contained in this learning pod are:

·      Course 100 – Basic Communications

·      Course 101 – Flying Around Airports

·      Course 102 – Aircraft Basics

·      Course 103 - Flight Instrumentation & Basic Navigation Concepts

·      Course 104 – Aircraft Identification

·      Course 105 – Air Traffic Control

·      Course 106 – Weather

·      Course 107 – Microsoft Flight Simulator X Instrumentation and Control Orientation (Note1)

·      Course 108 - Laminar Research – X-Plane 9 Instrumentation and Control Orientation (Note2)

·      Course 109 – Introduction to Aeronautical Charts

·      Course 200 – Advance Communications Procedures

·      Course 201 -  Flight Planning and Flight (Final Exams)

Learning Pod 2: Flight Simulation Laboratory

The Flight Simulation Laboratory Learning Pod is designed to provide each student with hands-on flight experiences, in the virtual world.


The courses contain within this pod are:

·      Course 700: Microsoft Sim X Beginner

·      Course 720: Microsoft Sim X Intermediate

·      Course 740: Microsoft Sim X Advance

·      Course 760: Microsoft Sim X Expert

·      Course 800: X-Plane 9 Advance

·      Course 900: Real Flight G4.5 (Note3) Intermediate

Learning Pod 3: Aviation Field Laboratory

The Aviation Field Laboratory Learning Pod provides students with the opportunity to participate in various field trip activities, such as.

·      Trips to the local park to fly radio controlled aircraft.

o  Firebird Commander R/C Firebird Commander 2

o  Cessna 172

o  P51 Mustang

·      Visits to the local radio controlled airplane modeling club facility

·      Visits to the local or regional Aviation Museum and local airports

·      Visits to local and regional Air Shows


Learning Pod 4: Core Values

The Youth Air Cadet Program strives to instill leadership, diversity, teamwork and excellence into each cadet.

The courses contained in this learning pod are:

·      Course 44: The Devotional Series: The Power of Courage Choices

·      Course 55: The Leadership Series: Christian Leadership Principles

·      Course 66: Teamwork: Exercises

·      Course 77: Diversity Series: Diversity Scenarios and Discussion

·      Course 88: Excellence: Exercises


Learning Pod 5: Aviation History and Legacy

The Aviation History and Legacy Learning Pod provides an excellent introduction to ancient flight, the Wright brothers, air power in World War II, the propeller and jet eras in commercial flight, the birth of the independent U.S Air Forces, the role of aviation during major conflicts such as Korea, Vietnam, the Gulf War and Iraq and the future of air power. The courses contained in this learning pod are:

·      Course 300: Ancient Flight

·      Course 310: Exploring Flight

·      Course 320: Developing Flight

·      Course 330: Extending Flight


Learning Pod 6: Program Administration

The Program Administration Learning Pod covers general administrative topics. The courses and modules contained within this learning pod are optional and can be used as the instructor or program sees fit. The courses contained in the learning pod are:

·      Course 10: Introduction and Orientation

·      Course 20: Earning Your Wings

·      Course 30: Preparing for a Career in Aviation

·      Course 40: Military Customs and Courtesies
